Dogs make for great pets. They are adorable, sweet, playful, loyal, and a lot more. They always do their best to show their love to their owners, especially if these people were also their rescuers. A perfect example would be the story of Christi Smith and her adopted pit, TatorTot.
TatorTot was to be euthanized at Minneapolis Animal Care and Control. It is when Christi Smith offered to foster the poor animal until she finds a forever home. She was concerned that the dog would be too much for her to handle in the long term. Only then she realized that TatorTot’s forever home was them.
She even took the dog to a nearby park and walked him around. When they got home, TatorTot already became gentler, and that evening, Christi felt that she wanted to keep the pitbull. It was on the fourth night when she decided to keep TatorTot for good.
She had just put her son to bed at around 8:30 in the evening. Around past midnight, her child woke up to ask for a drink. At that time, Christi noticed that her son seems not himself for some reason.
Nevertheless, she thought that maybe her son was just too exhausted. TatorTot, however, felt uneasy. He began barking and running back and forth between Christi and her son Peyton. At first, she thought that maybe her dog has not yet exhausted all of his energy, but the pit bull would not stop at all.
It was at that time she decided to check on her son. She was shocked and frightened as she found her son to be barely breathing. Not even TatorTot’s barking, touches, and licks could wake up Peyton. That was when she rushed Peyton to the emergency room, where they discovered that her son’s blood sugar was dangerously too low.
While her son tested negative for diabetes, the doctors were not able to find out exactly what happened. Christi could only feel relief and grateful to TatorTot and ultimately decided to keep the pup.
