Mangy, Stray Dog In Houston Got Lucky

Mangy, Stray Dog In Houston Got Lucky

Yours Truly Dogs December 16, 2020

Sadly, stray dogs often times get ignored by many people. Moreover, stray dogs with mange are being avoided and ignored because of their poor skin conditions.

These dogs are survivers, though. They look for any possible ways to get by daily, searching for food in garbage cans and using their charms to beg for attention from humans.

One mama dog in Houston, Texas, won the hearts of the employees of a beauty store. They provided the dog food while waiting for her to be rescued.

She had been straying behind the store, and it was evident that she has recently given birth. The dog obviously was  hoping to be noticed and needed support, so she kept on hanging around for weeks, even if it was raining.

Erika and Sandro, employees at the store, started taking care of the stray dog by feeding her and treating her mangy skin. The dog was friendly and easy to approach, which made it easier.

The city of Houston has been dealing with a huge stray dog population. It is estimated that the city has more than a million stray dogs. Shelters in the city are full and can only accommodate more dogs when some dogs under their care are fostered or adopted.

People in Houston coming across the stray dog problem often times take care of them while they are on the streets and waiting to be rescued. While it is illegal to feed stray dogs, people do it anyway.

After a few days, the South Side Street Dogs Team came to the rescue, after Erika and Sandro had called to get the mama dog out of the streets.

is a collaborative Dog & Human team. We are Mumu, the Star and Epi Dog Mama, the Project Manager. Together we have worked it out. But it was difficult in the beginning. Mumu landed in Epi Dog Mama’s lap by unplanned circumstances and in bad shape at nearly 6 years of age. It was a seemingly impossible mission in several ways. The journey has been a long series of events, probably orchestrated by some benevolent force, certainly. Not always a straight line, and quite a few hurdles. But here we are and we think we have something to share. We couldn’t be happier to have found each other - it has transformed our lives. Yes, Mumu has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) probably since birth, an inability to produce sufficient pancreatic enzymes leading to poor absorption of nutrients and undesirable consequences. This is a condition which often gets undiagnosed by vets and misunderstood by people. This blog will tell you all about how we navigated EPI together and made it to a success, guided by that benevolent force, no doubt. Under Category EPI Dog you will learn more about how wonderful and strong Nature is if you let it have it’s say. And details about what we do to live a full, balanced, happy life. ThIs blog is not only about Mumu. There are so many other charming dogs all over the planet. They are remarkable, funny, beautiful, smart souls. Here are more stories about them too.
