Dog On A Beach In Mexico Befrends Nomadic Couple

Dog On A Beach In Mexico Befrends Nomadic Couple

Yours Truly Dogs August 17, 2020

A dog on a beach in Mexico made the encounter of her life when she appeared in front of Katelyn and Howard enjoying the beach one morning. She was friendly and affectionate and they could not help but pet her and play with her.

Dog Lovers

They are dog lovers and  have their two dogs, Piper and Ella, with them all the time, as they are professional nomads travelling across the continent looking for experiences rather than stuff, as they say on their travel website https://www.newstatenomads.com/. A  work-from-home couple who live in a 200 sq ft camper and were, at that point, traveling throughout the mainland and Baja peninsula of Mexico.

They just took to the dog and started to give her love and play. They called her Scout. She was malnourished and looked very thin and she had ticks and several wounds and scars. Each morning when they stepped out of their camper the dog was waiting for them outside, wagging her tail. They gave her food.

Difficult Decisions

The dog grew on them and it was not long before both of them bonded. They knew she could not fit into their cramped space. But they could also not imagine leaving her behind. They started to ponder if they should take her into their fold and how. But there was the problem with very limited space in the camper. And could a beach dog adapt to an indoor environment, accept a leash once back home in the U.S. How would Ella and Piper accept a stray dog in their space ?

Scout Already Had A Home

The first time they tried a leash on her, Scout just took off and disappeared in the blue. Following her they discovered to their dismay that Scout already had a home and a family. Katelyn and Howard found themselves really heart broken. They had come to fall in love with Scout and were now attached to her.

A man fishing on the beach saw Katelyn crying and came up to talk to them. He turned out to be the dad of Scout’s family. They told him their story with Scout, how they met her, had been feeding and taking care of her, had a vet come visit –  because they believed he was a stray. Then the man said something really surprising. He told them that if they loved her, they could keep her because the family was too poor to really afford to feed and take good care of her and that they would give her a better life.

This time Katelyn and Howard cried happy tears and tears of relief as they had come to the point that they could not see their life without Scout in the family.

Scout Became A Professional Nomad

That’s how Scout left her beach in Mexico and became a professional nomad and U.S. dog citizen. Contrary to what the couple had apprehended, Scout loved the coziness of the indoors and turned out even better on the road than Piper and Ella, Scout was like made for that kind of life. Now the five of them are travelling together still having less stuff and more experiences. They think they actually chose each other right at the moment when Scout appeared in front of them the first time at the beach, That they were made for each other and it was meant to be. And It also changed their life.

is a collaborative Dog & Human team. We are Mumu, the Star and Epi Dog Mama, the Project Manager. Together we have worked it out. But it was difficult in the beginning. Mumu landed in Epi Dog Mama’s lap by unplanned circumstances and in bad shape at nearly 6 years of age. It was a seemingly impossible mission in several ways. The journey has been a long series of events, probably orchestrated by some benevolent force, certainly. Not always a straight line, and quite a few hurdles. But here we are and we think we have something to share. We couldn’t be happier to have found each other - it has transformed our lives. Yes, Mumu has Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) probably since birth, an inability to produce sufficient pancreatic enzymes leading to poor absorption of nutrients and undesirable consequences. This is a condition which often gets undiagnosed by vets and misunderstood by people. This blog will tell you all about how we navigated EPI together and made it to a success, guided by that benevolent force, no doubt. Under Category EPI Dog you will learn more about how wonderful and strong Nature is if you let it have it’s say. And details about what we do to live a full, balanced, happy life. ThIs blog is not only about Mumu. There are so many other charming dogs all over the planet. They are remarkable, funny, beautiful, smart souls. Here are more stories about them too.
