Bonnie Michalek and her husband call their dog Brutus their first baby.
Once the couple was able to move into a bigger house in Northern California, they were confident that they would be able to adopt a big dog like him. The young Bullmastiff was very active and needed the extra space to run and play.
Like many devoted dog owners, they doted on their beloved pet and bought him lots of playthings. Most of the time, though, Brutus would go through his toys in seconds. He would shred and tear them apart. Except for one.
Fluffball
Brutus adored a yellow plush toy and would carry it with him everywhere. He finds comfort in it and rarely spends time without it. But soon, he will find something, or rather, someone, that he would love even more.
Two years after adopting Brutus, Bonnie discovered that she was pregnant with her first child. The lovable dog was finally having a younger brother. But according to Bonnie, Brutus may have already known she was pregnant before they even did.
At first, she just thought that Brutus was being belligerent. Every time her husband was out working, especially at night, the dog would demand to sleep close to her. Looking back, she realized that he was just being protective of her.
And as the days to their son’s birth got closer, they were confident that the dog would be a very loving big brother. Brutus was very gentle around kids and adored having them around him.
Big brother
When Kayden finally came along, they slowly introduced Brutus to him. Brutus was left with Bonnie’s parents when she gave birth. And when they finally took him home, the dog went directly to the new baby. The loving pooch wanted to give him kisses and snuggle up to him.
Ever since they first met, he decided to become his protector. He would stay in the same room never leaving the baby out of his sight. And whenever he cries, he would go get his fluffball and put it next to Kayden. He hoped that the toy would comfort the baby, as it did for him.
By the look of things, these two will be best friends for life.
